Union Health Insurance Company helps its clients in the fight against cervical cancer and sudden infant death syndrome

Bratislava, April 3, 2008 – Union Health Insurance Company (Union zdravotná poisťovňa, a. s.), member of the Eureko group, helps its clients in the fight against cervical cancer and sudden infant death syndrome
From March 2008, Union Health Insurance Company is pleased to offer its clients the possibility to borrow a home device called “Nanny” that monitors a baby’s breathing and movements. The device, lent free of charge to clients with infants up to six months of age, can significantly aid in decreasing the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). In addition, since April 1, 2008 Union Health Insurance Company has announced that it will pay the majority (SKK 9306) of the coat of an entire vaccination program against HPV for a specific group of its female clients.
Approximately 250, 000 women die annually as a result of cervical cancer. 550 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed each year in Slovakia and 200 women die as a result of this disease. In 90% of the cases, the cancer is caused by HVP, human papillomavirus, against which there already exists an effective vaccine. That is why Union Health Insurance Co has decided to support its clients in the fight against cervical cancer and will pay the majority of the sum (SKK 3 102) that covers the three vaccinations that make up the full programme. This is available to girls born in 1996. In addition, Union Health Insurance Co. also decided to join the Year against Cervical Cancer initiative, that links organisations that actively participate in similar activities.
As part of its benefits for mothers and children, Union Health Insurance Co. is also concentrating on infant care and the risk of SIDS that sadly accounts for 25% of deaths in infants under seven months of age. Union Health Insurance Co. will lend a home breathing and movement monitor called Nanny, free of charge, to the parents of its infant clients up to six months of age. The parents only need to ask their GP to complete an application form and send it to the company. The device works simply and is contained in a mat that is placed in the baby’s cot. This then monitors the baby and triggers an alarm that notifies the parent if there is any deviation from normal breathing/movement activity.
Union Health Insurance Co. offers these benefits to its mother and child group in addition to its existing benefits which include:
- Services of a midwife - already used by 132 of our clients.
- CRP screening - the C reactive protein is an indicator that enables the doctor to distinguish a viral infection from a bacterial one, which is important in determining whether antibiotics should be prescribed. Union has paid for more than thousand such screenings already.
- A home visit of the doctor –clients are interested in this benefit, but also the doctors themselves with more than nine thousand such visits already made up to date,
- Vaccinations against flu free of charge – more than ten thousand children were already vaccinated.
- Preventive cytological screening for women from 18 years of age.
Union Health Insurance Company is committed to bringing its clients new benefits that meet their specific needs. Union’s primary interest is that its clients should have access to health care when they need it and in the form that they need. That is why Union does not financial limits to health care providers. In addition to this main benefit, Union also offers CRP screening; home visits of the doctor and vaccination against flu free of charge both to its child clients and to adults. One-day surgery, discount on the non-stop telephone service “24hour doctor” and discount on travel and supplementary health insurance count among further benefits offered by Union. Union also offers special employee benefit programmes to employers and their employees.
