INTERAMERICAN: The “Guardian Angel” of the Greek Team at the Homeless World Cup in Melbourne
The Greek team made its presence felt at the Homeless World Cup, held for the 6th consecutive year in early December in Melbourne, Australia.
The Greek participation, organized by “GALERA” magazine, represented our country in the struggle of socially vulnerable people for a life with dignity; their efforts are supported by INTERAMERICAN, the sponsor of insurance coverage for accidents, health and travel, for the second consecutive year, on this faraway delegation.
The tournament conveyed a message against poverty, social exclusion and racist marginalization around the world, an issue more timely than ever, which characterizes one of the main goals of “Acts of Life”, the Social Responsibility Programme of INTERAMERICAN.
On the pitch, the Greek team held its own, with six wins and an equal number of losses, bringing it to 30th place, its greatest victory being that against Sweden (14 – 1). It should be noted that the Greek community of Melbourne supported our delegation. The 2009 tournament will be held in September in Milan.
